CAREER SPECIALITY DEFINITION
The HUMINT Career Field represents DIA’s ability to execute its national security mission through providing actionable intelligence to warfighters working on the frontlines of the Nation’s defenses. Officers in the HUMINT Career Field perform a wide variety of functions to execute and support the mission, including overt and clandestine collection of intelligence across a spectrum of sources and methods, management of the collection and reporting cycle, and direct intelligence support to collectors and collection operations as members of the following career specialties: clandestine
collection, overt collection and operations support.

DIA relies on these officers to manage, guide and oversee HUMINT operations conducted by overt and clandestine HUMINT officers. They do this by generating the collection platforms’ operating directives, focusing collection efforts and enabling collectors’ responsiveness to Department of Defense and national security information requirements. These officers also ensure the production of quality reporting and collaborate across the Intelligence Community to increase their target knowledge to effectively focus and oversee HUMINT operations. Specific roles in this specialty include operations support officer, collection management officer and HUMINT targeting officer. The Operations Support HUMINT career sub-specialty can potentially serve as a gateway to other HUMINT career specialties such as Clandestine Operation or OVERT Collection.

MISSION MANAGEMENT (MM)

The Mission Management Career Field represents DIA’s ability to synchronize and assess the entire intelligence cycle. Officers in this career field are the critical link in the combatant commands (CCMDs) between warfighters, planners and defense intelligence analysts. As trusted advisors to senior government officials and flag officers, they coordinate and integrate diverse intelligence operations from the tactical-theater level to the national-strategic level across the following career specialties: collection management, international affairs, intelligence operations management, joint capability development and intelligence support to acquisition, joint intelligence planning, joint target intelligence, and policy and strategy.
Career Specialties in this field consist of the following:
Collection Management (GG07 - GG12): Defeat foreign denial and deception! Collection Management officers optimize collection resources by building relationships to understand customer intelligence needs and gaps, researching existing requirements, and then developing or updating and plans to task Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) resources. DIA offers Collection Managers an accredited certification program.
International Affairs (GG07 - GG12): Represent DIA to allies and foreign partners! International Affairs officers plan and coordinate foreign military intelligence cooperation and engagements. They manage international intelligence arrangements and execute intelligence sharing conferences and relationship development activities with partner nations. They also provide foreign disclosure support for sharing of intelligence with foreign partners. DIA offers International Affairs employees an accredited certification program.
Intelligence Operations Management (GG07 - GG12): Drive daily intelligence operations! Intelligence Operations Management officers manage joint multi-discipline intelligence requirements, resources and operations throughout the intelligence cycle to provide warning and support the joint warfighter and national policy makers.
Joint Capability Development and Intelligence Support to Acquisition (GG07 - GG12): Define the future intelligence architecture! Officers in the Joint Capability Development/Intelligence Support to Acquisition specialty advocate for future Department of Defense Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) capability requirements through the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS).
Joint Intelligence Planning (GG07 - GG12): Mastermind intelligence plans for warfighters! Joint Intelligence Planning officers orchestrate the Intelligence Planning process at commands and organizations. They integrate all available intelligence capabilities and resources in support of the Department of Defense’s military planning process, and assess risks to intelligence support. DIA offers Joint Intelligence Planners an accredited certification program.
Policy and Strategy (GG07 - GG12): Be a strategic change agent! Policy and Strategy officers advise organization leaders on national, Department of Defense, Director of National Intelligence, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and combatant command policies and strategies. They also develop and advise on Department of Defense and agency long-range institutional plans to enable the agency to achieve its goals.
Joint Target Intelligence (GG07 - GG12): Strike a blow for freedom! Joint Target Intelligence (JTI) officers establish policy governing JTI intelligence standards and procedures. They advise joint force targeting and fires operations to determine appropriate guidance and targeting priorities. They develop targets and engagement strategies and assess the results of the engagements.

For the specialty of Joint Capability Development and Intelligence Support to Acquisition, the MM career field has a high-priority and urgent requirement for an entry-level individual to support Space Architecture capability development and coordination actions within IC/DoD, and other DoD special capability programs in support of ICCR and JCIDS processes. A candidate with previous experience in this area and with some type of STEM education/background (i.e. math and science) is preferred.
